Tanzanite

One of December’s birthstones has arrived. Tanzanite is a rare blue-violet gemstone belonging to the zoisite mineral family and is named for its sole source in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. First discovered in 1967, it is prized for its vivid coloration and its pleochroic properties—displaying varying hues, such as blue and violet, when viewed from different angles.
